Hidden away down a quiet little walkway leading to the now-sleepy Martineau Square, Lina Coffee is one of those places you’d only ever find by accident. I still remember when this area was heaving, Sainsbury’s on one side, H&M on the other, back when lunch breaks meant queues, not tumbleweed. It’s a small café, and honestly, if you’re a city worker like me head down, phone out, frantically checking share prices, red lines, green lines, and pretending you’re definitely still on top of the market, you’d walk straight past it. There are menu boards dotted around trying their best to grab your attention, but they don’t stand a chance against a lunchtime portfolio panic. Which would be a huge mistake. This is clearly a small, family-run place a husband and wife setup, with genuinely lovely vibes and the kind of regulars who don’t even need to look at the menu. I went for the chicken steak and rice, and it took a little while to arrive, a delay that instantly told me this wasn’t microwave magic. Freshly prepared, properly cooked, and so worth the wait. It was fresh, flavourful, and exactly the kind of meal that makes you forget about the FTSE for five whole minutes. The value for money is ridiculous in the best possible way, especially for the city centre. I’ll 100% be back, the lamb mandi is already pencilled in as one last hurrah before Ramadan begins. A proper hidden gem. Put the phone down, ignore the share prices for a moment, and go find it.
