A halal certificate is clearly visible on the premises.. .
Highly lauded chef-patron Atul Kochhar was the first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star at Tamarind four years ago and in the three years since opening his own restaurant Benares in Mayfair; he has established Benares as one of London's best Indian restaurants. Atul's highly acclaimed menu explores dishes from all over India and his regular return trips to his native country inspires his delicately spiced, contemporary eye catching food, creating a luscious fusion of East and West. The menu at Benares is the culmination in Atul Kochhar's extensive research, incorporating dishes and ingredients from all corners of India. Renowned for its subtle spicing and authentic flavours, Atul's food - all of which is Halaal - is faithful to its origins but presented in a style in keeping with the elegant surroundings.

Was not impressed, as the food in general was bland more suited for English/western palate. As expected portion are tiny so you will feel hungry even after a 3 course meal. But the service is very good, waiters were knowledgeable and we were served with complimentary drinks as there was a delay in seating us down.
Best Indian food I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Small portions but packed with flavour. For special occasions only, 4 of us ate for £300 but no one was disappointed. A meal that will live long in the memory.
does not worth the price i order the lobster £45 which was very chewy.. the crab £15 was ok but the mayo was disgusting, also the lamb was ok but i dont know how they got a star michelin, as it is really average, i will never go back again, rather prefer khan in bayswater and so cheap in comparaison!
Excellent service and food as you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. However note only the lamb and chicken are halal.
Me & couple of friends went to celebrate is marriage. We had the grazing menu. The service was impeccable but considering you are paying for it, you would expect that! Food was delicious and unique and would highly recommend it as one of those places you would go on a birthday or anniversary.
My wife and I received a gift from family to go to Benares and sample the delights. We had pretty standard dishes (i.e. biryani, tandoori chicken, etc.) with some unusual ones (halal venison with pumpkin risotto). It was all pretty tasty which is to be expected for the price. The atmosphere is nice. The desserts were tasty too with Kulfi supplied by a well-known south london manufacturer(!). All in all a good experience, and the cake to celebrate our engagement was a nice touch.
