Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status.. Halal options available upon request.
Established in 1955, Emles is an independent, no frills, little cafe housed in a former Sharky's fast food space, that cooks full service breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks from 7 am to 9pm everyday. The menu is exceptionally large by today's standards, offering everything from 99 cent English muffins or bagels in the morning to $16 steaks and shrimp dinners at night.

They're breakfast is amazing! We did get verbal assurance from staff that all meats are halal.

Delicious, no-frills diner-type restaurant.

The food and service were great!

EMIE'S RESTAURANT, a busy eatery, is well-known for it's breakfast menu. We went in the evening to try their Mediterranean, conventional/vegan menu. This is a comfortable eatery with bench seating and well separated tables. The decoration is Middle Eastern, with rock covered walls and plaster murals. Emle's food is light, not oily, salty, or saucy. Our server, Omer, did an excellent job explaining each dish. As an appetizer, we ordered the breaded and fried portobello mushrooms. It is served with a lovely garlic sauce. All four of us enjoy this vegan specialty. I found the vegan vegetable plate to be ample and satisfying. The house-made pita, served with the plate, is delicious. The other guests also enjoyed their meals, however, one guest found the lobster risotto a little rich. One caution: the toasted bread slices served with the meal are vegan, however, the dip cantains cheese and is not vegan. There are no vegan desserts on the menu. UPDATE: Sam, the new owner, has polished the menu. Not a lot was changed. There's a new chef. Our meals tasted a smidgen better. Sam stopped at our table to make sure everything was fine. It was. We have returned several times since this review was first published. Emie's new chef and Sam have never disappointed. STUFF: Both patio and restaurant seating are available. Parking, including wheelchair parking, is free and easy. Everything else, including the neutral-gender bathroom, is wheelchair accessible. Emle's is near California State University. Students and faculty with ID cards, are offered a 10% discount. On Sunday, Monday, and Thursday alcohol drinks are half price.
