YelpAfter I heard about Amsterdam having a huge Surinamese and Indonesian scene, I knew I had to try one out. I was able to reserve a seat at Warung Spang Makandra in the afternoon and I’m glad we got the reservation because we had an amazing time! We started off ordering markoesas (passion fruit juice) and they had the perfect amount of sweetness from passion fruit, I highly recommend trying this if you’re looking for something non alcoholic. For appetizers we only got the fried cassava and honestly weren’t huge fans of it, they ended up being kind of bland if you didn’t cover it with peanut sauce. I would’ve liked if they were slightly salted. The star of the night was the nasi rames, it had a huge portion and every bite was packed full of flavor. I highly recommend dropping by if you are in the area and checking this place out.

YelpFood is incredible. Really work the money. Ask for additional spicy, enhances the dish flavor. We had the special recommended dishes. Spang Makandra Special highly recommend

YelpI first visited this place when I moved to the country, curious about Asian cuisineespecially after noticing its similarities with Surinamese-Indonesian food. That interest grew over time. Recently, I brought my friends from France. We didn’t have a reservation, so we waited quite a while, but thanks to some early cancellations, we managed to get a table. The food was delicious we had the Maganda Special, Nasi Rames, and a few Markoesa drinks, which I loved for their sweet-sour passion fruit flavor. It was a training day for new staff, but the experienced Surinamese waiter managing the floor was kind and professional so ignored the small mistakes :) even under pressure. Much appreciated all the stuff!! The only downside was the noise, it was very loud, and the crowd waiting near the entrance felt a bit too close to the dining area.

YelpSaw this was a nice Surinamese restaurant in Amsterdam. We came on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30 pm. We ended up ordering a Roti Dish with Chicken Fillet. This roti was a curry masala dish with potatoes, vegetables, eggs and roti. We also ordered the Spang Makandra Special which has fried rice, noodles, chicken fillet, chicken satay, long beans, egg, potato sambal and fried potato. Both were really good but the Spang Makanda Special was amazing. Also the best part of the restaurant is the employees were super chill and friendly. Nicely ran restaurant and felt like a family run place!

YelpFood was amazingggggg! Especially the mixed dish that gives you a taste of everything if you cannot decide what to eat. Had a reservation and went in early. Though they started to rush us a little since the crowd started coming I … Place also got pretty stuffy and hot after while.

YelpThis dish is so worthy!! Everyone, please get this special plate of everything!!! I do not know what each item is called, but everything on the plate was good. I honestly was in doubt when entering because it looked low key ghetto outside. The inside totally looks different and the staff is very kind as well. I want to try their other dishes now.

YelpThis place can be insanely busy (which speaks to how delicious the food is!) Would highly recommend making reservations. We got the chicken satay, chicken fillet roti dish and the chicken fillet curry with fried noodles. I Highly highly recommend the chicken satay it was so delicious and perfectly cooked. It was crispy and juicy. Make sure to ask for a mix of sauces (both soy and peanut) it was insane!! The two dishes we had were high portions that were quite flavourful. The service was also wonderful. Cozy spot that's always busy and bustling. To a tourist, it definitely feels like a local favourite.
