very delicious stuff I would recommended to anyone
Istanbul Restaurant is located right near the cathedral in Köln. It’s a very “restaurant-style” döner place. I saw it online with the Google reviews and noticed it had around a 3.9 rating, so I figured I might as well give it a try. I went inside and ordered a regular döner in pita bread. To be honest, it was actually quite okay. My only real complaint is that it could have used more sauce at the bottom and probably a bit more seasoning overall. The vegetables were very standard: iceberg lettuce, tomato, some cabbage, and onions. I opted for the feta version. There aren’t really many customization options here. The service felt a bit unusual at first. They basically just told me to sit down and that they would take my order. But overall the service was actually nice. The guy running the place seemed in a good mood and was quite talkative with people, which was nice to see. The döner itself was good. I can’t really complain about the quality of the meat. You can even see it in the photos I posted — the meat is actually quite solid here. It was just a bit small, and together with the fact that it could use a bit more spice and something to tie the whole thing together, that’s why I’m giving it 4 out of 5. Overall though, it’s a cozy place and very conveniently located near the cathedral and the central station. If I’m ever back in Köln and need to catch a train, I’d probably stop by again.
The Istanbul Restaurant happened to be located near the Hilton hotel where we were staying. One day, after buying plenty of beer, we came here to get some food to go with our drinks. We ordered the Istanbul Mix Grillteller für 2 Personen. The portion size was astonishingly large and truly impressive. The owner and staff were extremely friendly, and while we were waiting, they even offered me a cup of hot red tea. The platter included a box of vegetables, a box generously filled with assorted grilled meats laid over a bed of rice, a pack of flatbread, and two sauces. The portion was so large that we couldn’t finish it that day and ended up enjoying the leftovers the next day. Overall, it was very satisfying, and the food was delicious.
Walking towards police station, and this place seemed to call me when I saw the juicy roasted meats on the griller. Super yummy, tender meat cuts and good proportion of meat and veggies. Bread was great too. Had the beef doner, only €8 and it was huge. Service was friendly and patient.
It's what you expect but that hits the spot. Turkish kebab. Large portions for a reasonable price considering the location next to the train station. Great for lunch or a late night fill up. No need for German you can use English or Turkish.
Stumbled on this place as we were walking around the cathedral in Cologne. Wow. Looked legit. Line outside and Donner in the window. Good clues. Walked in around 10 PM to have dinner. No German for me so I struggled with the menu, but I think they took pity on me because I look famished. Eight all that you see in the photographs which was phenomenal. Service was off the charts.! Definite must!
