They used to have quality food at the Skokie location and we loved it. Since they moved to Evanston their cooks may have changed and the foods not the same. One item was really salty and the taste of the rest was not consistent. Wish they get their act together, cuz loved to go there
We ordered Beef mantu(dumplings), combination platter with afghan rice and it came with two small size sauces(favorite sauces) and for drink we ordered Mango Bellini mocktail(non alcohol). Mango Bellini came half empty as u can see in the picture, and tasted straight up box juice similar to Shezan mango juice (but weird in taste)….upon asking the waiter why is my mocktail half empty, he said that’s how they serve. In no way this half empty glass looks fancy or stylish to me , it cost $8. Don’t waste your money on that thinking you’re going to get a good Bellini. Mantu was ok , but the combination platter had beef skewer and one thigh skewer and they both tasted delicious. Staff was ok not the best, as we were still eating (almost done tho) and the waiter came to pick up dishes as if they were in hurry. We went at 6pm and it wasn’t crowded so don’t understand why the waiter was in hurry. Overall will rate 5/10 experience. They are charging you more for the ambience experience only
An awesome place with great food! I came here to try out a new restaurant, and it exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Absolutely amazing experience! We tried the beef mantu, and it was incredibly flavorful—perfectly spiced and delicious. The filet mignon skewers were unbelievably tender and cooked to perfection, while the beef koobideh had a great taste and texture. We also had the Kabuli Pulao, which was really good—the perfect balance of rice, meat, and sweetness from the raisins and carrots. On top of the fantastic food, the service was exceptional! Our waiter was so attentive, constantly checking in to ensure everything was perfect. Definitely a place worth visiting, and we’ll be back for more! Highly recommend!
Just stumbled upon this one , it’s a proper restaurant with good atmosphere. I loved the service of our services the most he was very polite and respectful . The food is awesome especially the kabob and milk cake were outstanding. I personally like the tea as well. Definitely must visit when in the vicinity
We went for a lunch date with my husband. We waited a while for the food, but it was definitely worth it as it tasted amazing. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere had the perfect lunch vibes. We both loved their Afghan raisin rice—it was so good!
The pomegranate mocktail here is exceptional—really refreshing and flavorful, arguably the highlight of the meal. The place has a festive vibe with nice lighting and thoughtful décor, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. In addition to regular rice, they also offer Afghani rice with vegetables, adding a nice touch of authenticity. Most dishes are priced around $25 each. We tried the Buloni appetizer and the combination plate, which included lamb kebab, seekh kebab, and chicken kebab. I found both the lamb and chicken a bit too chewy — I was hoping for more tender meat. Overall, the food is pretty good, but the mocktail definitely stood out more than the main dishes.
Recently tried Kabul house and it was a wonderful experience. I used to go to the Oakton location back in the day, but this new place is bigger and better than the old location. It's a beautiful restaurant , spacious, plenty of seating. The decor is pretty and welcoming. The staff is friendly and our server made great recommendations . We had Mango Bellini Mocktail and Strawberry Tahin Mocktail. Beef Mantoo, Spicy Chicken Kabob, Lamb Chops, Shrimp Kabob & Beef Koobideh. Date Salad & Kadu, Afghan Rice & Saffron Dill Rice, Hot Black Cardamom Tea & Firni. Everything we tried was delicious. The portions are great and can be easily shared. I also like that they have vegetarian options as well. I'm totally going back there again. Highly recommend this place.
We came here for a celebratory dinner after a northwestern graduation ceremony. The food was so delicious that I was happy to have the leftovers for lunch the next day. The staff was very polite and the restaurant was clean. When we went, the men’s bathroom was down and the women’s bathroom became a unisex with one customer at a time. This likely has changed since we went. As far as food goes I’d definitely start with the hummus and get either chicken or beef koobidah for juicy tender meat. Sooo good.
