I was driving home down West Henrietta Road after holiday shopping in December and I saw the Jay's Halal sign on the front of the building. I love trying new cuisine and looked it up and was surprised to find out it had only just recently opened (late 2025). I finally got a chance to stop by and will be coming back for sure. We got takeout of chicken kabobs, gyro over rice, manto, and kabuli pulao. The portions are generous, with complex and wonderful flavors and you can tell a lot of love is put into creating the meals. The rice of the kabuli pulao especially absorbs the savory flavors of the meat its paired with, which is so tender it falls off the bone. The meals are also well-sauced and come with additional sauces, and the accompanying salads were very fresh and not an afterthought. The menu is appropriately-sized which suggests an emphasis on constructing a small number of carefully-crafted meals rather than overwhelming you with choices. The building itself is in a very accessible location and the dining area is exceptionally clean and gently decorated. I placed my order as a walk-up and despite being told 15-20 minutes it was only a ten minute wait. The menus are clearly displayed and ordering was easy. This place is worth your patronage, and it's especially important to support small, independent restaurants. Jay and staff clearly treat this restaurant not as a business, but as a way to provide authenticity and serve meals the way they would want to be served as customers. Generous portions, great price, and you can feel the love put into the food. Highly recommend!
