Visited Halal Wok Express recently and came away with mixed but generally positive impressions. The food leans more toward mild Cantonese and American Chinese flavors rather than the bold, spicy profile I was expecting. One thing they absolutely get right is the texture and quality of the meat — both the beef and chicken were exceptionally tender and well cooked. The restaurant itself is extremely clean, well maintained, and run by very kind and welcoming people, which definitely adds to the experience. Among everything we ordered, the chow mein-style lo mein was the standout dish. It was the one item where I could genuinely taste some proper wok hei — that subtle smoky “breath of the wok” character that defines good Cantonese stir-frying. The noodles had good flavor and texture overall, though I personally would have preferred them slightly drier with a bit more aggressive wok fry. An interesting addition could also be gai lan (Chinese broccoli), which would bring more texture, freshness, and a more traditional Cantonese balance to the dish. That said, several dishes could still benefit from stronger seasoning and more confident spice levels. The Szechuan beef lacked the málà profile I was expecting — especially the peppercorn heat and layered chili depth associated with proper Sichuan cooking. I ended up adding dry chili flakes and pickled green chilies with vinegar to bring it closer to my taste. Still, the portions are extremely generous, the ingredients seem fresh, and for a newer halal Chinese spot this feels like a very solid beginning with plenty of potential as the kitchen continues refining its flavors.
