Mumbai Chowk

I love this place. I don't love the ambiance (it's pretty low key). But I love the food. As much as I love Pakwan, it's all the way in Hayward or south Fremont. So I often get my desi fix from here, since it's right near my house. Their chaat is off the hook. Their biryani is pretty good, too. And the manager is just a really nice guy. He makes special baby food (daal and rice) for my kids without charge. He gave my daughter a dessert one time for free, because she was crying. And he told us that on Eid, he will start having halwa poori. We come here a lot as do many of our friends. I'm knocking one star off for ambiance, but other than that, it's pretty solid. 5/26/2017: ** In a previous review, I knocked some stars off for ambiance. I guess the owner was listening. He shook things up and this place is very cute now.

Good food. We ordered the samosa chaat, tandoori sizzler plate and jalapeño naan. Everything was very tasty. Service was excellent and the place is clean. I recommend. I will return to try their other items. Workers confirmed all meat is halal. There is also a halal sign displayed in the window as well as on the menu.

I am a huge chaat lover. We used to trek all the way to Viks Chaat House in Berkeley. Now, we no longer need to. The puri chaat was great. Other things we tried were the okra (fabulous) and the fish tandoori (husband liked it, I thought it was ok). The naan was good. Overall, it's a no brainer, I'll be going there for desi food from now on. It's just so close and has great variety. The service was also very good and the manager came out several times to make sure we enjoyed the food. The ambiance is ok, not the best (but the chaat place across the way on Ardenwood is a real hole-in-the-wall, so this place looks like Mehran after that). We went two days ago and we're going back today for take-out. Let's see if today's papdi chaat is better than the puri chaat.

People, this is the place for chatpatta food! The menu is absolutely different from other desi resturaunts, you will never find bombay street food anywhere else. And it s YUM! The family that owns the place are Muslims, and very down to earth but sophisticated people. I will go again, for the street food. I didn't try anything else, but the stuff I had was lovely and flavorful.

If there is one thing about Mumbai Chowk that stands out, it's the customer service. When they say child friendly premises, they really mean it. This place serves the finest Bombay cuisine, along with the street snacks we can't eat when we visit India, and with friendly service, to boot. In terms of both food and ambiance, it felt as if we were actually eating at the owner's home. He came out from down the hall and made small talk, played with my niece, the whole nine yards. Let me not forget to discuss the food. It was quite good. The CTM was well-stocked with tender pieces of chicken, and spiced just right - didn't taste like tomato puree with orange food coloring like you would get at other places. The lamb jalfrezi was also very good, as was the mixed vegetable. It actually had vegetables in it such as cauliflower and carrots, not just bell pepper with spices and oil. The portions were generous, especially for a place that has only been open six months. I would come here again, esp. to try the tandoori menu and more of the street snacks.
