New Dynasty

This is a Chinese counter-service restaurant located in busy Dupont Circle, serving typical greasy, inauthentic, Americanized Chinese food that is exactly what you need sometimes. Seriously, there aren\'t a lot of places to get halal Kung Pao chicken or General Tso\'s so you eat what you can find. The menus is fairly extensive, with Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian dishes available. The staff verbally assured me that everything is halal, and the restaurant makes a point to advertise its halality. There\'s enough seating for groups of 6-8 provided you don\'t come at peak time. The restaurant is located in a busy, densely-packed mixed-use neighborhood, so better leave the 1991 Ford Taurus SHO with the fantastic-looking Yamaha-sourced 3.0 V6 at home. This author tried take-out so the dine-in experience might be a bit different. The Kung Pao chicken ($10, fried chicken with peanuts in a spicy sauce) was unfortunately a bit bland, but asking for it a little extra spicy helped. Predictably, the General Tso\'s Chicken with white meat ($12) was occasionally crispy, here and there hard, and a bit soft everywhere -- mastery of General Tso\'s crispiness is a hallmark of a great Americanized Chinese restaurant and the search continues. The Mongolian beef entree ($12, slices of beef with thinly-sliced green peppers and onions in a thin sauce) was recommended by the restaurant as their best beef dish -- a solid average, but not quite memorable. The fried rice and lo mein were exactly as you\'d expect. No surprises at this restaurant. This is inexpensive American Chinese food that would be correctly mistaken for American food by someone Chinese. 4/5 stars for what it is.

Good food, tasted good and very reasonably priced. They have a huge halal sign outside of the restaurant. Definitely worth going if you are in the area.

I flight from California so I was very hungry and looking for halal food. I think it is best place for dinning, it's not to big restaurant but very nice and clean

Chinese and Halal are not found that often and this location is near Dupont Circle in Washington DC. I like the variety and service is friendly and understandable.

I thought I had written a review on DC/DuPont Circle's New Dynasty, but I guess not. This is my 3rd or 4th time here and each time I've had a good experience. Today I had the Indonesian fried rice and Kung Pao chicken. I also liked that they had Thai iced tea here too.

Had been here twice, October 2013 and June 2014. Happy with the food: portion, taste and price wise. Owner confirmed that the food is halal. There is also halal sign outside the restaurant, although not a certified one. Definitely one of my options to dine in if I ever return to this city again.

i am sorry to see so many Muslim eat in this restaurant. there is NO Chinese Muslim restaurant in DC, MD, or VA. There was only one many years ago but was closed. All so-called Chinese Halal restaurants are NOT. We Chinese Muslims know how Chinese pretend to run Halal and sell to non-Chinese Muslims because they really dont care much about the authenticity of Halal...they just eat whenever they hear or are told that it is halal, but they dont' verify. sad for non-Chinese Muslims to eat here. there are also fake Chinese Halal in VA, claimed to be run by Chinese who stayed in Pakistan. sad.

I am Indonesian and New Dynasty is very familiar for Indonesian because It just behind Embassy of Indonesia. One month ago, I asked about HALAL SIGN on their flyer, because it has not HALAL SIGN before and we knew they are not muslim. They said that the only ingredients which is NOT HALAL is MSG. They do not use MSG which has HALAL SIGN and the meats ordered from HALAL BUTCHER. Please make sure do not order the food with the MSG. They promised to switch to HALAL MSG.

I've been here a few times before. The food is pretty good. Prices are pretty good too (student discounts). I've gotten the lo-meins and a few other types of their noodles. Pretty greasy (as expected), and they are very generous with the meat. The General Tso and Orange chicken is very good too! The chicken corn soup is not bad. Too greasy, but I still like it.

Wanted to update my review as their menu is printed with their halal status. Owners are very nice. Also, every time we've come here all the food (noodles, chicken, beef, veggies, rice, soup, etc.) has been really good, tasted fresh, and was ready more quickly than we'd expect. And your dollar goes far here, the prices are great. I think it's the only place that's actually in DC that serves halal/zabiha Chinese food. Definitely a DC fave! The only thing to note is that it's a very casual space, with a no frills seating area, so it's not a special occasion spot but is great for a casual lunch or dinner.

Food was pretty good (ate cold leftovers the next day). Kids enjoyed the chicken lo mein. Owners def Muslim. Their soups were good too. I tried the hot and sour. The best thing is they offer FREE DELIVERY! Min. Order of $15...plus you can order online..very convenient!

Wow. Great food and friendly atmosphere. Soups were good and the food was delicious. Reasonably priced. Some of the dishes we tried were Sesame Chicken, Garlic Chicken, Singapore Vermicelli curry and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Every dish was well prepared. Strongly recommend.

The spices are customizable. A very friendly owner, our child was fussing and he came out with little paper umbrellas and popped it open to amuse our child (it worked :D). The portions are huge and prices very reasonable. We'd definitely return.

Multiple assurances from the owner that everything is 100% halal. Great variety of food. Owner traces his lineage through Calcutta, Burma, and Pakistan back to China. Highly recommend!

Tasty food at reasonable prices. I went there several times and they're consistently good.

This is really authentic tasting food, in great portions. We got the chicken with black bean sauce and sesame chicken. simply the best food. great to see fellow muslims from other cultures with such restaurants. i will return as often as possible.

I've been to this place 3 times. Twice I've met the owner, who isn't Muslim, but has always guaranteed that the food is halal. He is very friendly and makes sure the customer is satisfied. He now prints halal on his menu since the chicken dumplings are now halal and they do not serve pork and wine on their menu at all. The hot and sour soup with crispy won tons is my favorite. The spring rolls are good as well - typical vegetarian but tasty with the roasted chili pepper sauce. I have tried the sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, kung pao, but the general Tso is the best! So soft and crispy and perfect level of spice. Best of all is the price. We got a student discount with our IDs which got us a free soup and soda. We also got 2 entrees and 2 spring rolls - all for 17 dollars. Totally satisfied and will recommend. Will be going back for the general again before I leave DC!

I talked to a lady who seemed to be the part of owners/management and she explained that they get all their meat from DC Lamb. I got a laksa and I definitely liked it. They have authentic Chinese (and some a couple of SE Asian - Malay and Thai) dishes. I will definitely go there again if I get a chance. I think this is also frequented by the Indonesian community/embassy crowd. Also, the restaurant seemed pretty clean.

I love to order a 'to go' from here. The food is simply delicious with a very fair price. i love their pad thai and general tsao chicken. Its truly a halal restaurant coz it doesnt serve liqour or pork. that means the utilities that they are using is clean. this is important for me since im totally strict in eating halal food. they have a muslim staff that convince me that this is a true halal restaurant. great service too!

I love Dynasty! It is cheap, in downtown, and halal. Dynasty is like a life-saver for me. If I don't know where to go to eat halal, I just go here. Since I am Indonesian, they have great nasi goreng!

Verbal assurance from owner and staff that food is halal. We ordered low mein, rice and General Tso's chicken. Not bad. Wish it was more spicy. Please note this place does NOT deliver to Cap Hill or anywhere outside Northwest DC. Kind of a drag, but could make for a good lunchtime stroll if not too cold outside. I would like to try more dishes from here before I give my final recommendation.

I placed my order through Uber Eats. The food was okay, nothing special at all, especially for the price. The only thing I really liked was the beef. Otherwise, there is no point in ordering from there. It was my first and last time. There are plenty of better Chinese restaurants.

Best meal in DC! My fam with 2kids (9/5 y-o) were looking for a nice Chinese dish and found this gem. The food was genuine and soooo delicious. Reasonably priced and very comfortable and casual with warm welcoming staff! So many delivery orders were coming through while we were eating and totally makes sense!! Mongolian beef, pepper steak and orange chicken were all very flavorful and astonishing. The gentleman at the counter was kind enough to serve us fortune cookies which made the kid’s experience so fun at the end of the meal ?

New Dynasty is your stereotypical American-Chinese takeout. They serve all the classics like general tso, kung pao, and orange chicken. What seems to be a small, local business, New Dynasty is a better option than your neighborhood Panda Express or other chain. It’s open late and will not disappoint. They have indoor seating too. Only complaint is that they lack authentic Chinese food. I ordered their Sichuan Chicken and it was nothing close to the actual dish. It was glazed in an extremely sweet and gooey sauce, without any spice and mala. The dish was tasty but not what I expected. If the owner responds, I’d appreciate your recommendation for dishes that you offer with more authentic recipes! I’ll make sure to come back and try them.

We had the general tsao, Mongolian beef, and vegetable fried rice; it was all delicious. Customer service was great as well. It’s probably the best Halal Chinese food I’ve ever had.

I stopped eating Chinese food for about 10 years . I usually would get the general tso chicken and it would always taste weird…… like the chicken was fake or something. Today I tried New Dynasty’s general tso and it was amazing! The chicken actually looks and tastes like real chicken breast. The fried rice has amazing flavor. They did not let me down. It’s been so long since I’ve enjoyed Chinese food and this will be my new go to place when I’m craving .

A small restaurant with a large menu of Chinese and other Asian dishes. My friend and I shared Singapore Noodle Vegetable ($15.95) and White Meat Orange Chicken ($16.95). We enjoyed our lunch and noticed how good all the food being served looked. Located close to the Metro and just a few blocks from the Phillips.
