Delicioso! Great food, great taste, reasonable price and nice ambient. Close to Victoria market. Worth to visit after exploring Victoria Market and when you are long for authentic Indonesian food. And it’s Halal!
Disappointing… coming back after nearly 2 years to this place. The perkedel (potato fritter) outside was not crunchy and rather greasy. The gado gado peanut sauce had little taste and the krupuk was not fresh. Too much potato and carrot, and no taugeh? Maybe it was too close to closing time.
Today's last day in Melb since gotta relocate to regional area tomorrow, so just came over to Pondok Rempah to nurture my tummy with their second-to-none Tumpeng Mini. Food itself, staff and atmosphere are just perfect. Definitely will come over here again once i back to Melb in the future.
So glad we walked in! Everything is delicious. Nasi Goreng - fried egg noodles is so yummy we also ordered the Vermicelli version. Chicken Pate - a must have We tried many dishes. The yellow rice is aromatic and pairs with everything. The in-house Sambal chili sauce is the best.
Solid food and great service. Nasi goreng has good flavour. Sate chicken is well charred and good flavours as well. The crispy chicken matah was ok too. Martabak telor was good. Overall, solid 4.
Nowadays, it is getting easier to find halal restaurants with delicious food in Melbourne. And, among them is Pondok Rempah (House of Spices) on Elizabeth Street which offers Indonesian cuisine. Here there is beef rendang, crushed chicken, chicken satay, beef rib soup, etc. The taste of the food is quite good. The size of the place is not too big and the seating is limited. Finally, I bought food to take away, namely martabak teur and fried dimsum.
If you're looking for a spot to grab a bite after shopping at Queen Victoria Market, Pondok Rempah is a solid choice. It's a cozy spot with a relaxed vibe, perfect for unwinding. The food is genuinely tasty – authentic Indonesian flavors that really hit the spot, especially if you're missing the food from back home. The prices are reasonable too, making it a great option for a casual meal without breaking the bank. Definitely recommend giving it a try next time you're in the area!
The available options of Indonesian Foods are varied, but most importantly, all of the foods I have tried taste beyond my expectation. They all taste super good, plus received good quality service from the staff. Definitely come back again!
