Guzman y Gomez was named to honour old friends. We founded GYG to share our love of all things Latin: the food, the music, the art, and the warm sense of community. That's why we like to get actively involved with our local communities, and some further away from home to spread the GYG spirit.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
This is a review for people that like the $12 chicken mini meal. If this was my main location to grab this specific meal, then maybe I wouldn't write this negative review because my expectations would already have been low from the get go. However, given that I always get this meal from the Guzman in Braybrook, I thought that the standards are the same across all the Gunman branches but the Highpoint branch fell short. I got my meal and literally had 4 or 5 tiny pieces of chicken, I was going to eat it and write a negative review but before doing that I spoke to one of the workers (I am assuming the manager) of the branch, she was really nice, she told me that they have a weighing scale and that they usually weigh the chicken (50g) and that maybe the Braybrook branch portion more. In my eyes, as someone that trains and weighs food, the chicken was nowhere near 50g, she was trying to help and wanted to top up my chicken and she ended up finding out that they had run out of ready chicken at that moment, so that made me question whether they had weighed my portion to 50g or they had to ration it as they were running out of ready cooked chicken at that moment. All being said, I appreciate that the lady was trying to be helpful, she was great to speak to, however, no resolution was arrived at. The point of this review is to inform anyone in the western suburbs that is fond of getting the $12 Chicken mini meal to think twice before getting it from the Highpoint location because the portion could disappoint you, you'd be better off getting that specific meal from the Braybrook Guzman. This is nothing against every other thing on the menu at the Highpoint location, I am only speaking about the $12 chicken mini meal.
