The owners are Muslim and have confirmed its halal status.. Owner is a Muslim and they display Halal symbol on their website and menu. From the management: 'yes, our meats are halal!'
Chef Mohammad Abutaha moved from Amman to the bay area, where he couldn't find the flavors from home, so he started a pop-up to satisfy his cravings and introduce Jordan-style street food to others. Shawarmaji's menu is short and simple, which is best for the small operation.

Delicious food and great service! The chicken shawarma was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, with a creamy garlic sauce that was spot on. The fries were crispy and fresh. Highly recommend Shawermaji for a tasty, satisfying meal!
Absolutely delicious. Was glad to find a place with vegetarian/vegan options that are also delicious AF. Portions are huge and filling. Tried toum (the garlic sauce) for the first time and it is my life now! Pickles were super good. Will visit again next time I'm in Oakland.
The food is nothing special at all. So many better meditereanean places in the bay area. Small menu, good took forever, and you are eating with plastic forks. The salads were boring and the meat fairly tasteless and they forgot to give us part of our order.
Came here for the first time and loved everything I tried. My favorite was the chicken shawarma fries, the garlic sauce and the chicken were cooked to perfection. The fries here are so good, so it made their special toppings even better. I tried their rice pudding and I loved that it wasn’t too sweet and was given pistachios to add to the top. Friends had wraps that were really good, the lamb fries were also good but the chicken was my favorite. I tried a new drink Freez Mix and it was so good!
Was looking for food near a venue I was working at, and I would call this a casual fast food place of just counter service. I got a salad with meat, and it was HUGE! Tasty, too. I definitely was not going hungry after that thing. I would recommend this place. It was clean and friendly enough.
Back for the second night in a row!!! The food is too good!!!! Shawarmaji stands as a culinary gem, proudly representing Jordanian cuisine in the East Bay Area. Mohammad's mastery with the captivating special spices elevates the dining experience to a level beyond expectations. The pickled vegetables, delightfully crunchy and flavorful, showcase a commitment to quality. The fries, paired with the special chipotle sauce, achieve a harmonious balance of savory goodness, adding to the overall perfection of the meal. The Shawarma wrap, a true work of food art, delivers a taste experience that captivates the palate, with each bite unveiling layers of delicious flavors. The herbs and seasonings transformed the chicken into a WOW!!!! WONDERFUL DELIGHTFUL CHICKEN WRAPPED IN LOVE!!!! Masterpiece of chicken wraps!!!!! The staff was truly Impressive they kept coming out with food and a smile, love the atmosphere, Staff gets 5Stars from me! Beyond the gastronomic delights, Shawarmaji impresses with its well organized and beautifully decorated restaurant, creating an authentic atmosphere that enhances the dining journey. For those seeking a taste of Jordanian cuisine with an artistic flair, Shawarmaji is a must visit , leaving patrons with a memorable and delightful experience.
Ok so Shawarmaji has all the makings of a restaurant that’s about to get BIG. Incredible, authentic Jordanian food, cool clean and colorful aesthetic, and expanding literary as I was eating in the restaurant (new location coming pictured here across the street). Got the chicken shawarma arabi style and WOWOWOWOW, so good. The trio of hummus, toum, and garlic suace was utterly divine to go with the wrap and fries. The home made pickles on the side were also perfect freshener to cut the heaviness of the meal. Went just before lunchtime to beat the rush as it’s a popular lunch spot for people working in downtown Oakland. Only downside of the experience was that as soon as I ordered, the food was ready. Like the food had already been prepared in advanced and was not all the way hot anymore. I get that they need too stay ahead of the lunch rush, but stomach eventually got rocked. No regrets as it was a very good meal, just keep an eye out for that. I’m would have happily waited longer for HOT food.
If you want a shawarma, you cannot go wrong here. Their toum and shatta are also the best I’ve ever had. Especially the shatta (I mean- toum is of course amazing, but no one else has shatta even close, in my experience). And they are generous with it. Plenty of seats, friendly folks, and good food at good prices :)
